There was a bizarre surprise for Snake fans at E3; namely a new James Bond-inspired title movie, with snakes instead of women - naturally. It wasn't the start we were expecting, but don't worry - the rest of what was revealed is pure class.
1967: Snake is sent on Operation Snake Eater, a mission to infiltrate a Russian base deep within the Soviet Union. He must locate a scientist suspected of creating a new form of nuclear weapon dubbed the Metal Gear. Despite a somewhat familiar plot, Snake Eater looks like being a cool new take on Snake's stealthy action, where all the traditional components of the game have been tweaked to expand the action.
For example, we've told you about camouflage before, where the closer you get to matching your surroundings with your choice of camouflage, the higher your stealth rating. There's also the importance of eating, as it builds stamina, heals wounds quicker and stops Snake's stomach from rumbling! All food must be caught or hunted. From mushrooms to alligators, there's plenty on the menu. If you're out hunting you'll want to keep a close eye on the grass and listen out for rustling, telltale signs of an animal's presence.
If that sounds too much like the boring bits in Deer Hunter, don't worry - there are tons of gunfights and boss battles as well, with a young Revolver Ocelot, and villains with flame-throwers and even jet packs! We can't wait to get legless with Snake.
