Doom 3 done and dusted?

Still absolutely no word from Activision on the matter, but according to the first wave of adverts for Doom 3, the much-touted blaster is in fact... Well... Finished; suggesting that the PC release is only a very short time away.
A big four-page ad in the trade press this week has stated that "We said it will be out when it's done...it's done!", whilst other promotional material has sported the very same proclamation. No matter what way you read it - you can't argue with words, Activision is saying the game has gone gold. Isn't it?
Of course, only recently, American online retailers splashed an 'official' August 3 release date on their sites. This splurge of marketing suggests that if they're not right, they can't be far from the truth.
If only Activision would pick up its phones for real confirmation, though. You never know - perhaps they're all too busy enjoying finished copies of Doom 3 in secret cupboards somewhere. The lucky gits...
