First shots and details have emerged today on Rogue Trooper, Rebellion's next 2000AD videogame that was signed up by UK publisher SCi back in May this year. The title is currently pencilled in for release in Autumn 2005 and at this stage appears to be in development for only Xbox and PS2.
Rogue Trooper is based on the 2000AD comic strip of the same name and stars a genetic infantryman (G.I.) - or the Rogue Trooper of the title. Rogue Trooper is one of squad of bio-engineered soldiers built to withstand the hostile environment of Nu Earth, a war-torn planet where alongside his buddies he battles against the Nort Republic.
Rogue's squad betrayed and wiped out at the Quartz Zone Massacre, the trooper goes AWOL, walking the path of vengeance as he tracks down the one responsible for sending his comrades to their demise.
Kitted out with some serious firepower, Rogue Trooper also receives help from his bio-chip buddies, hardware containing the digitised personalities of his fallen friends that reside in his gun (Gunnar), helmet (Helm) and backpack (Bagman). Each bio-chip offers their "unique expertise and assistance, allowing Rogue to strategically outwit a sophisticated enemy." We expect this to play a key role in the game.
SCi describes Rogue Trooper as a "mix of intense third-person action and next generation stealth elements, with complex line-of-sight AI, multiple game paths, full tactical use of your bio-chip operated equipment and both single- and multiplayer online gameplay."
More on the game soon, all being well, but in the meantime you can view first screenshots on this very page.
