May for Mario DS in US, Euro release soon

Mario's first proper 2D platformer in years set for imminent Western release on DS, plus bunch o' screens

We already know from Nintendo's recent DS announcement blow-out that Japan is primed and ready to recieve Mario's first proper 2D platform adventure in years, New Super Mario Bros., this May. Now however, the company's US arm has confirmed that our American cousins will also have the jolly fat one perched in their laps on May 7 too.

Given the development team's previous declaration that New Mario Bros. should be the best 2D Mario game yet, it's good news to hear Nintendo's planning a close-to-global launch for the hotly-anticipated title.

Although no specific details regarding a European date for the game have yet been released, a Nintendo spokesperson confirmed to us this morning that New Super Mario Bros. is currently pencilled in for a Q2 launch over here, suggesting a May or June release could be on the cards.

Just as soon as we have firmer details stashed in our blue dungarees, we'll expose ourselves fully. While you bite your lips in anticipation of that moment, why not check out the latest New Super Mario Bros. screens to grace the ether.
