3D Realms spills more on Earth No More

Almost every weapon designed to have a collaborative mode, says dev

3D Realms has revealed a little more on Earth No More, the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 game in development at Recoil Games that we had first details on yesterday.

New information comes via quotes lifted from the article in Game Informer magazine on the title which have been plastered onto 3DR's website.

The details in the quotes are teasing, but they provide some insight into the game's direction and influences and additionally explain that many of the weapons in the shooter are being designed with collaboration in mind - Recoil Gamers promises online co-op for the entire campaign, allowing players to jump in and control single-player enemies.

Anyway, without further ado, here are the quotes:

  • The development team is specifically moving away from what they call the 'lone hero,' while also avoiding a squad-based direction.
  • We're going to design almost every weapon in the game to where it's going to have a sort of collaborative mode to it. One gun called the Linker works like a reverse proton pack from Ghostbusters.
  • The good guys aren't the only ones who can team up, however. Enemies are being designed to complement each other's skills as well.
  • The team is intricately analysing how group dynamics work in movies like the Alien, The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, and 28 Days Later, hoping to emulate that kind of tension in game form.

And that's your lot. Expect further details and first screenshots soon. Earth No More is due to release in 2009.
