Smash Bros. line-up bigger than ever

New Assist trophies call on the help of "characters who couldn't quite make it as playable fighters"

The playable characters to in Super Smash Bros. Brawl is one of the most speculated topics in the world of Nintendo right now, and a new item, the Assist Trophy, opens up the possibility of there being dozens of guest appearances.

Assist Trophies are picked up during a fight and are used to call in a non-playable character to help the player who summoned them.

A Hammer Bro, a giant Nintendog and F-Zero pilot Samurai Goro have already been revealed, and series creator Masahiro Sakurai says: "Super Smash Bros. Brawl is sort of like a festival that all sorts of characters show up for.

"Assist Trophies allow you to enjoy even more characters who couldn't quite make it as playable fighters. You may even see some that only the most dedicated fans will recognize, so you'll have to look forward to them."

This has us crossing our fingers in the hope that Solid Snake is a playable character, and simultaneously wandering what other non-Nintendo characters may turn up as an assistant (Sonic, anyone?).

Screens of that are below, as well as snaps of Wario's special moves - riding his bike at people and farting - that latter of which charges up longer you brew it.

There are also some shots of the new and improved Bowser, who can fold into his shell and has a totally different fighting style from previous games, according to the official site.
