Midway to sell off Mortal Kombat

Fighting series looking for a new home

Troubled publisher Midway is to sell of the legendary Mortal Kombat series after almost 20 years.

According to documents published by NetDockets the publisher, which filed for bankruptcy in the US last month, is looking for "execution of an asset purchase agreement for the sale of Midway's Mortal Kombat franchise assets".

Apparently $3,755,000 in withheld employee payments has been set aside by Midway for those who manage to offload the rights, as well as publishing duties for Wheelman, which have been nabbed by Ubisoft.

It's obviously not very good news for Midway, but as far as gamers go it'd be fantastic to see the classic fighting series given a new lease of life under a different roof.

Who would you like to see house the fighting franchise?

Thanks, Kotaku.
