The Sims celebrates its tenth birthday

Series exceeds 125 million game sales and over $2.5 billion in revenue

Electronic Arts' The Sims series celebrates its tenth birthday today, and to mark the occasion the publisher's provided an update on just how ridiculously popular it still is.

Lifetime Sims game sales have exceeded 125 million copies globally, making a tidy $2.5 billion for EA, and according to Sims boss Rod Humble, the franchise is still "gaining momentum a decade after release".

Now available in 60 countries and 22 languages, the franchise spans three core PC games - The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 - and dozens of expansion packs.

June 2009's The Sims 3 was last year's bestselling PC game and has now shifted over 4.5 million copies worldwide.
