Activision security has 'stormed Infinity Ward's offices', citing "insubordination" and apparently firing studio CTO Jason West, according to reports.
Activision security allegedly turned up unannounced at Infinity Ward overnight, claims G4TV, reportedly resulting in a tense atmosphere between the two sides. However, the IW studio heads - Vince Zampella and Jason West - were said to be nowhere to be seen. Trouble's brewing...
It's since emerged that West's tenure at Infinity Ward had officially ended (as confirmed by his LinkedIn profile). Vince Zampella's status with the studio has yet to be confirmed, but there's a good chance he's on the run from Activision's black helicopters.
An Activision statement read: "The Company is concluding an internal human resources inquiry into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward. This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation."
The key word there is 'insubordination', which suggests the two bosses were going against Activision's orders. This has already sparked rumours on what provoked Activision into reacting in such a drastic manner.
Infinity Ward Community Manager Robert Bowling couldn't shed any further light on the situation: "I should also say, while I appreciate all the calls, tweets, messages and hearing my ringtone a lot, they're in vain - as I have no info."
It's a very strange situation, as Infinity Ward has undoubtedly brought a lot of cash into the Activision coffers - and both parties are ramping up towards the release of the first DLC.
Both parties are likely to find themselves subject of conspiracy theories and frantic guesswork as everyone tries to figure out exactly what has gone wrong.
Like we say - very strange.
