The Nintendo 3DS and 3D games generally will pull in the hardcore audience rather than casual gamers, according to Tecmo Koei CEO Kenji Matsubara.
"When you bring something new to the market, the core player group first finds it interesting, and then it expands from there," he said.
"I believe current DS core gamers who like new things and core gamers who don't have a DS will be the first to jump in. After that, it will be up to the content."
Other voices in the industry seem to think 3D gaming will play a more dominant role. Ubisoft recently predicted that 50% of games will be 3D by 2012.
