Nintendo suffers six month loss

Platform holder slips from a profit last year to a £15.5m deficit

Nintendo has reported a drop in sales and a loss for the six months ended September 2010.

Net sales fell 33.7 per cent to 363.2 billion yen (£2.8b), while the company posted a loss of 2 billion yen (£15.5m), compared to a 69.5 billion yen (£538.6m) profit for the same period last year.

The disappointing results were down to six month declines in Wii and DS hardware and software sales.

According to Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata, Nintendo's platform business could be "in trouble" if the Wii doesn't perform well this Christmas.
