EA's just officially announced Need for Speed: Shift 2, now subtitled 'Unleashed'.
Shift 2 apparently aims to build on the "true driver's experience" with the introduction of what EA calls "the driver's battle".
That's a battle between other drivers and the track itself as EA aims to make the struggle for speed and power more "primal".
This is all achieved with the first-person cockpit view, where Shift 2 plonks players into the driving seat and aims to give them a more authentic experience.
Other features include an all-new rendering engine with a massive graphics overhaul, an innovative helmet camera view simulating the physical experience of driving at 200mph, night racing and the authentic degradation of tracks and cars.
It'll also benefit from the Autolog social networking system, which will début with Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit this Friday.
"Shift 2 Unleashed is redefining immersive racing by blending the rush of tearing up the track at unbelievable speeds with the emotional experience of competitive battle," said exec producer Marcus Nilsson.
"We are also working closely with real-world performance drivers to ensure that Shift 2 Unleashed captures their experience and becomes the benchmark in authentic racing action."
It's out in Spring 2011 on PC, PS3 and 360. More soon.
