Kinect porn ready for Xmas, reckons sexpert hacker

But inability to see your vitals is an obstacle, says Machulis

An expert on sexual technology - and famed Kinect hacker - has claimed that interactive porn will be coming to Microsoft's camera device "within the month".

Kyle Machulis, who runs tech sex site slashdong.org (NSFW), has been named as a Kinect-hacking authority by New Scientist magazine. (Despite Microsoft insisting that the device hasn't been hacked at all).

He reckons that Kinect pornography and (far less erotic) Kinect Skype services will both be here before Christmas.

In a blog post titled "Kinect Sex--Because you knew I'd make this post sooner or later", he asked "How can I [have sex] using Kinect?". Ours is not to wonder why.

Have you had your breakfast? Good. Then we can begin.

Machulis said he experimented by waving a sex toy in front of Kinect, and then by wagging his tongue around in front of it. One small step for man and all that...

He concluded that though the graphics quality was lacking, the device was capable of picking up both the toy and his tongue. We really, really hope he didn't discover this playing Kinectimals.

"The Kinect alleviates the need for having hardware, because now as long as we have a shot of the 'action,' as it were, we can use that 'gesture' as a control," Machulis wrote. "Not only that, the gesture itself is the toy. Or you could employ a toy under the gesture."

But before you start humping away in front of Kinect's beady eye in search of carnal Nirvana, beware fellas - it appears there is at least one stumbling block.

"The pattern the Kinect uses to get depth data is made for picking up full bodies to control video games," Machulis explained. "[It] isn't quite so good at picking up minutiae about those bodies."

He added: "Genitalia, for the most part, are not a major geometric feature of the human body when taken in perspective of physical size....Neither are they normally used in the control of video games, be they rated [for all] or [for adults only]."

Our opinion? When even your digital sex toy refuses to recognise your genitals, it might be time to give up altogether.
