3DS hacked for R4 already

Piracy cart already seen working on the new handheld

The 3DS has barely had a chance to take its first steps into the wild, but piracy attempts on the console have already seen success.

R4 and other DS piracy carts have already been seen working on the new handheld via YouTube videos of people trying them out.

Early videos we saw demonstrated how many of the carts used to play pirated games on the DSi and previous models don't work on the 3DS (which, in case you didn't know, is backwards-compatible with DS games).

But new videos, picked up on Destructoid, show a version of R4 and some other similar device running pirated versions of original DS games and emulators on the 3DS.

Of course, all this means is that old DS games can be pirated on the new machine. Thankfully, there's no sign of piracy for new 3DS games. Yet.

And hopefully there won't be for some time to come. Nintendo said multiple times in the recent past that the 3DS would feature greatly enhanced anti-piracy measures that should hold off hackers.
