Batman: Arkham City maker Rocksteady and Mortal Kombat reboot developer NetherRealm will use Unreal Engine 3 exclusively on all projects until 2014, under the terms of a new licensing deal signed with Epic by parent company Warner Bros Interactive.
Samantha Ryan, Warner's senior VP development, called Unreal Engine 3 "a perfect fit" for both studios.
"Mortal Kombat and Batman: Arkham City use the engine's state-of-the-art capabilities to provide the important foundation in bringing gamers the experience they are looking for," she said.
Epic Games VP Mark Rein added: "We're very excited that the talented production teams at NetherRealm and Rocksteady will continue to make Unreal Engine 3 their exclusive core technology for the next few years to create the exceptional titles they are so known for."
