3DS breaks Australian handheld launch record

Becomes the nation's fastest selling portable gaming system

Nintendo of Australia says 3DS enjoyed the biggest launch of a handheld gaming system in the country's history.

The portable shifted 31,000 units in four days, just shy of the 32,000 Wii units sold in the same time period following the home console's launch in 2006, according to Aussie Nintendo.

Nintendo sold 303,000 3DS units across Europe and 113,000 units in the UK during the new portable's first two days on sale.

Wedbush and EEDAR analysts believe Nintendo sold 500,000 3DS units during the system's first five days of availability in North America.
