BioShock PS Vita is a new game 'built from the ground up'

Ken Levine wants to surprise fans, says a BioShock port just wouldn't cut it

One of the coolest pieces of news to come out of Sony's E3 press conference early yesterday morning was Ken Levine's revelation that Irrational Games is making a BioShock game for PS Vita.

He didn't give any specifics away during his brief on-stage announcement, but he's told IGN the project will be an entirely new BioShock game made from scratch.

We didn't expect a lazy port from the guys and girls at Irrational, but it's nice to get confirmation that the PS Vita release won't be a BioShock 1, 2 or Infinite remake anyway.

"It's a different project," said Levine. "It's its own thing being built from the ground up.

"That is going to be strange and surprising to people. I think we always want to surprise people. If I'm just saying 'here's BioShock 1 on Vita', that's something we could potentially do, but you don't need us to do that. Somebody [else] can make that happen."

Levine would only add: "It's a core game."
