Virgin Gaming and EA have announced the Battlefield 3 Worldwide Conquest Tournament.
Set to kick off early next year, it'll offer a $1.6 million in prizes, which the pair says is "the biggest console cash prize pool in gaming history".
The online tournament will culminate with a live grand finale "where the players with the best Battlefield skills" will walk away with a share of the cash.
"We're always looking to raise the bar for our members, to give them truly epic gaming experiences they won't find anywhere else and Battlefield 3 hits the mark," said Virgin Gaming co-founder Zachary Zeldin.
"This partnership with EA and DICE is exactly the kind of relationship it takes to deliver on that goal, and we can't be more excited to be working with them to host the greatest competitive gaming event I've ever seen."
Battlefield 3 hits UK stores on October 28, but a beta went live yesterday for those with early access, and opens up to all tomorrow.
If you have played it, do you think it's worth the hype or is it just another shooter?
