Rage, Asphalt and Zombie Café - This week's best iPhone games
27th Oct 2011 | 10:37
In 2011 it's difficult to discredit iOS as a legitimate platform for gaming, so it's about time we gave those iPod and iPad titles on the App Store a bit more attention on these pages.
In a new weekly regular, our friends and colleagues at T3.com bundle together five of the best offerings available on Apple devices, from the freshest additions to established hits.
As ever to help shape our round-up let us know about your favourite iOS titles in the comments below.
Whale Trail is the latest quick-tap endurance-actioner, and its up there with the best. Sharp controls and touchscreen reactions are key to this genre, and Whale Trail nails it, but what raises it above the merely good is the stunning art design and music, creating a world that's just as memorable as Mario's Mushroom Kingdom. There's rarely been better gaming value for money.
If you're into breathtaking graphics and first person shooters, then Rage will be the game for you. Hardcore PC gamers will be quick to criticise that the iPhone is incapable of running FPS type games effectively, well if there was ever a game to prove you wrong then this is it. The eye-catching graphics and addictive gameplay is perfect for every type of gamer, casual and hardcore.
Asphalt 6: Adrenaline
Unlike Rage, Asphalt isn't for those looking for amazing graphics. Instead, Asphalt is about addictive gameplay as you twist and turn your iPhone around corners in order to beat the cars in front and come first. It may not be up to EA's NFS: Hot Pursuit's standards but it's certainly perfect for the casual gamer who loves Arcade-style games.
The casual Facebook gamer inside you will be screaming for you to get this game. If you've heard of Cafeville then you'll adore Zombie Café. With quirky graphics and unique gameplay there's not a single reason stopping you from downloading it. Best of all, it's free!
Burn the Rope
Don't you just love it when a game tries to do something different and unique? If the answer to that question was yes, then you'll love Burn the Rope. This unique game will have you calm and frustrated at the same time as you try to complete the mind-boggling puzzles set before you on screen.
