To mark the November 4 (US) and 10 (UK) anniversary of Kinect, Microsoft's announced it's to launch the Kinect for Windows commercial program early next year.
The commercial program is aimed at giving businesses the tools to develop applications "that not only could improve their own operations, but potentially revolutionise entire industries," Microsoft claims.
More than 200 businesses worldwide including Toyota, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Razorfish have joined a Kinect for Windows pilot program to begin exploring the wider possibilities of the motion sensor, the firm's confirmed.
"While no one knows what the future holds, if the past year is any indication, it's going to be inspiring."
One example of Kinect's real-world use is in hospitals, where the device is supposedly capable of aiding surgery and patient rehabilitation. Read more here.
