EA 'making daily improvements' to Battlefield 3 servers

Publisher brushes of "intermittent disruptions" during launch week

If the patchy-at-best Battlefield 3 service has been rubbing you the wrong way this week, fear not - EA is on the case.

In the press release announcing the game's impressive "estimated" 5 million week-one sales, the publisher addressed the issue of its stuttering servers with an expectedly positive take on the matter.

"Server stability was solid in the first weekend, delivering EA's highest-ever usage rates," it said (don't leave and slam the door yet, though).

"While some players experienced intermittent disruption of online services due to high volume, internal estimates show that servers and service uptime stabilized to roughly 98.9% throughout the weekend, ensuring that players were connected and enjoying the game."

Note that it specifies 'weekend', leaving out the first few days after the game's tuesday launch in US when Xbox servers were down for hours at a time, and Online Pass registration also stalled rendering new copies of the game unplayable.

On the positive side, EA goes on to say: "With a commitment to support the game as a software service, EA is listening to consumer feedback and is making daily updates and improvements to ensure an optimal online experience for all."

This mirrors a message from an EA rep who was earlier quoted as saying EA's "turned a corner" with regards to maintaining server stability.
