Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City beta 'early 2012'

Get hands-on with the squad-based shooter ahead of its release

Capcom has revealed plans to launch a Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City beta "early next year".

Producer Mike Jones made the announcement at the publisher's Gamers Day 2011 event last week, but didn't offer any further details, according to Joystiq.

Taking place across the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 timelines, Operation Raccoon City is a spin-off of the series that puts a more action-packed, Left 4 Dead-style twist on the usual Resi gameplay.

It allows teams of four players to co-op blast their way through the city as Umbrella Security Service squad members sent in to cover up the zombie outbreak.

Capcom confirmed earlier this week that Operation Raccoon City will release in the US on March 20, 2012 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The latest Raccoon City trailer revealed that Nemesis, the bloke that just wouldn't take 'no' for an answer in Resident Evil 3, will make an appearance in the game.
