Modern Warfare 3 user review average plummets to 2.8 on Metacritic

Users come out in force to take CoD down a notch

Critics have taken a liking to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and its Metacritic average of 90 serves as a testament to the high quality of Infinity Ward's latest effort.

However, shift your eyes a little to the right and there's a different story being told. Negative users have flocked the review aggregator and submitted their own scores - and it ain't pretty.

At the time of writing the Activision published blockbuster holds a user review average of 2.9 based on a total of 231 ratings. Of those 56 are listed as favourable, ten have been categorised as 'mixed' while an overwhelming 165 are 'negative'.

Meanwhile 34 of the reviews from critics are pegged as positive, with one mixed and no negative reviews.

"Oh dear, I've just played a game that's identical to one from 5 years ago... same old same old, but no anti-cheat features, same old tired graphics, ok so it has a few new classes....it's not like anyone actually works as a team. Back to counterstrike methinks" says one user.

"A soulless cash-in, Modern Warfare 3 represents everything that is wrong with modern gaming. I have no doubt that it will be showered with 9+ scores, but in reality this is merely a phoned-in recycle of a 4 year old game.," adds another.

A third throws in a bit of humor with the ire: "I tried this game out of curiosity because apparently its what the cool kids play these days. All I can say is that I hated the part where there was an explosion."

Earlier this year the industry score hub admitted it's been targeted by crooked publications and negative review 'bombers' who target certain games and brand them with 0% review scores.
