Battlefield 3: New Back to Karkland gameplay video

Add-on pack due to deploy next month

EA's released a new gameplay trailer for Battlefield 3's upcoming Back to Karkland DLC pack.

Set to arrive this December, the Back to Karkland expansion pack will offer four classic Battlefield maps - Strike at Karkand, Wake Island, Gulf of Oman and Sharqi Peninsula.

Combined, the four fan-favourite maps have been played for about 25,000 man years, according to developer DICE. For Battlefield 3, they've be remastered using the Frostbite 2 game engine to offer all the visual upgrades and levels of destruction you'd expect from the series.

In addition, Back to Karkland will offer five new dog tags, five fresh achievements/trophies, three new vehicles (desert patrol vehicle, BTR-90 armoured personnel carrier, F-35B STOVL jet fighter), ten iconic Battlefield weapons and a new persistence system where players complete assignments to earn rewards.

Lead designer Niklas Fegraeus, who also held the same position for last year's Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam add-on, has drawn comparisons between the two expansions.

"Certainly from the perspective of scope and ambition, they are very similar. This is no simple map pack.

"Back to Karkand will also include iconic Battlefield 2 vehicles, weapons to bring back to the base game, new unlocks and persistence, and more content that we will talk about later. They are also similar in that they are both strongly themed."

Ten million copies of Battlefield 3 have already been shipped to retail.
