Sledgehammer hiring for new Call of Duty game

Modern Warfare 4? Third person title?

Modern Warfare 3 co-developer Sledgehammer Games is hiring for what appears to be a new entry in the Call of Duty franchise.

"We are actively recruiting top talent for our Call of Duty development team," reads a job advert for a senior online engineer.

"Sledgehammer Games is looking for an exceptional online engineer to help bring our online experience to a new level," it adds. "The candidate will be involved in the creation of multiplayer game modes and online community features for an unannounced high-end console title."

Sledgehammer is Activision's newest Call of Duty studio. It was initially working on a third person CoD project before being drafted in to co-develop Modern Warfare 3 with Infinity Ward. Back In October, general manager Glen Schofield told us the third person game had probably been cancelled for good.

He added: "I think that we will work alone on our next project. [Modern Warfare 3] has allowed both Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games to hire, and we hired really strong teams, both of us. We needed to come together on this one, but since then we've both grown, we're both over 100 people now.

"Initially we weren't fully functional because we had to learn a new engine. Now we have, I think the best thing that could happen for Activision would be for us to both go off and make our own game. Whether that's a Call of Duty game or not is up in the air. I plan to continue working on Call of Duty."
