Xbox 360 was the best-selling console in the US last year, outselling its closest rival by more than 2.7 million units, according to NPD sales data passed along by Microsoft.
The firm sold over 1.7 million Xbox 360 units in December to top the monthly chart too.
NPD analyst Anita Frazier said: "The Xbox 360 was the best-selling platform for the year, and the two HD platforms (360 and PS3) were the two platforms to realise a unit sales increase over last year. All other platforms declined in unit sales versus 2010."
According to Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter, Wii sales dropped a whopping 55 percent year-over-year.
On the software front, Modern Warfare 3, Just Dance 3 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim were the best-selling games in December and throughout 2011.
