Lollipop Chainsaw gameplay trailer - Dissected

"Two, four, six, eight - who do we eviscerate?"

Gimme a 'D'! Gimme an 'E'! Gimme a... ahh, 'decapitation' is too long a word for that kind of thing, but you get the idea.

But rest assured though that the latest Lollipop Chainsaw gameplay trailer gives you all the decapitation, limb-severing and bisecting you could possibly chant for, and then some.

It also offers up several clues on what Suda 51's latest slice of digital madness will be like to play. So without further ado, let's take a closer look up the trailer's skirt (Phrasing! - Ed) and see what hidden goodies we can uncover...

Zoom

When a zombie outbreak, er, breaks out at San Romero High, all eyes turn to resident cheerleader Juliet Starling, seeing as she's descended from a long line of zombie hunters. Also: she has a chainsaw.

All that practice on the football field has given her body a certain litheness, which comes in handy when fighting against an army of undead shufflers. The trailer kicks off with some mesmerising footage of Juliet disorientating her foes with a stunning array of somersaults and flipos.

Zoom

After dropkicking one of the zombies into next semester with a pixel-perfect dropkick, she spins round and incapacitates another with a devastating butt-splash right to the face. We don't remember seeing that routine at the Superbowl half-time show.

Zoom

But why use your limbs like a sucker when you're packing a gigantic chainsaw? Juliet follows up her butt-splash by whipping out her trusty weapon and slicing open anything that A) moves and B) smells a bit whiffy.

Zoom

Particularly worthy of note is the dash attack, pictured above taking out three baddies in one fell swoop. Its speed and precision should prove invaluable while you're trying to keep a combo window open.

Zoom

It's not entirely clear what happens next, but we think Juliet picks up something that momentarily turns her chainsaw into the mother of all rocket launchers. Destruction and devastation is the inevitable outcome. This looks to us like Lollipop Chainsaw's equivalent of a Rampage mode.

Zoom

Juliet doesn't fight alone. She's flanked by Cordelia (a no-nonsense sniper lady) and Rosalind (all-nonsense ditz who appears to be the gang's wheelman). Are they incidental characters who flesh out the storyline, or is this the first hint of multiplayer? Our instinct leads us to think the former, but you never know.

Zoom

The whole 'zombie outbreak' thing is the idea of this gothic jerk named Swan. Juliet remembers her former classmate only as being 'quiet', but he's since found his voice and has risen to command an army of undead metalheads. As you do.
