Hitman: Sniper Challenge outed as spin-off game

Will be offered as pre-order bonus for Absolution

Pre-orders of IO Interactive's Hitman Absolution will be rewarded with a code for Hitman: Sniper Challenge, a spin-off title that will give players additional opportunities to put bullets in skulls as Agent 47.

The title was spotted in the latest issue of US mag Game Informer, which carries an advert for Sniper Challenge and touts "Replayable Sniping Mission" (we're really hoping it isn't just one), an "Exclusive Rifle with Upgrades" and "Awesome Prize Packages for Top Snipers."

Hitman: Sniper Challenge was trademarked back in January, leading to speculation that it might be the new 'premium quality' Hitman game being developed at the newly established Montreal studio.

Yesterday, IO Interactive and Square Enix teased a "major announcement" coming for Hitman on May 10. We're guessing this is it, and if so, this is a serious abuse of the word 'major'.

Chances are Sniper Challenge will eventually show up as a standalone download on PSN and Live, so if you're not currently inclined to pre-order Absolution but want to play it, there's still some hope. Absolution it looks great though, have a read of our latest Hitman Absolution preview here.
