PC graphics now 24 times more powerful than the Xbox 360

According to a report in New Scientist, modern PC graphics cards are 24 times more powerful than the one used in the Xbox 360.

That's according to Nvidia engineer Simon Green, whose GeForce GTX 680 card is reportedly the card powering Epic's recent demonstrations of their Unreal Engine 4.

While the GTX 680 is more than capable of running Unreal Engine 4, its successor, the GTX 690, is twice as powerful again, offering a potentially mind-boggling degree of power.

On the topic of cloud gaming, Green said that as technology and hardware evolve, "the whole idea of owning a separate piece of hardware to play games on might be completely redundant."

With Unreal Engine 4 and Square Enix's Luminous Engine suggesting publishers and studios are ready to move into the next-gen, do you think Sony and Microsoft are halting progress?
