Square Enix: 'A Final Fantasy VII remake would end the franchise'

CEO says it won't consider revisiting 'until a better FF is made'

Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has said it won't remake Final Fantasy VII until it makes a game better than the beloved PS1 classic.

His comments were made at a Q&A session during the company's annual shareholder's briefing.

Wada was quizzed about the much-requested remake and, according to Andriasang, responded by saying 'we'll make a Final Fantasy VII remake once we've made a Final Fantasy game that exceeds the quality of FFVII.'

Wada effectively admitted that the JRPG powerhouse's seven main sequels and dozens of spinoffs have failed to surpass the quality of Final Fantasy VII.

He went on to say that while the development team would be more than happy to remake FFVII, doing so would likely put an end to the franchise.

Square Enix looks like it's preparing to release an enhanced version of FFVII for PC via Steam.
