The Tomb Raider series reboot will extend beyond the upcoming release to include future sequels, Crystal Dynamics global brand manager Karl Stewart has confirmed.
"I have to be careful because I know exactly where she's going," he told VideoGamer when asked if more Tomb Raider games were in the pipeline.
"You have to look at the future, you have to look at where... It's not just one game."
Stewart's comments suggested next year's Xbox 360, PS3 and PC release was the first chapter in a narrative which looks at how Lara Croft developed into the Tomb Raiding heroine.
"At the end of this game we want her to be that strong female character that is willing to go and seek out mysteries and seek out tombs," Stewart continued.
"She's going to be going to plenty of tombs in this game, but we're going to have somebody who wants to go on that adventure, who wants to be the person that she now is. That's the goal."
Square Enix has named Californication and True Blood actress Camilla Luddington as the new "performance actress" and voice of Lara Croft.
