Fans start petition over Aliens 'female snub'

Aliens fans have started a petition pleading for developer Gearbox to include female marines in Aliens: Colonial Marines' multiplayer mode.
According to the petition founder, Melissa K. (online name MOOSH89), Gearbox producer Brian Burleson has said that there will be female marines in the single-player campaign, but multiplayer will apparently only offer up male marines as playable characters.
Considering the Aliens films iconically star a strong female lead - Ellen Ripley (played by Sigourney Weaver) - Moosh is rather upset by this.
"The ALIENS franchise started the first female action hero," she says. "Women are a big part of the ALIENS universe. The main character, the Queen Alien, the supporting female cast members, and even the United States Colonial Marines has many female marines, roughly close to the same number as men enlisted."
At the time of writing the petition only has 222 signatures, but their voice has arguably already been heard.
A Gearbox Environmental Artist who goes by the alias 'Chemical Alia' responded to one of Moosh's posts on The Escapist, assuring fans that Gearbox does "read all the email/fan mail we get and send it out and discuss/respond to it".
The rep also stated how simple it would be for Gearbox to add female marines to multiplayer should they choose to: "Women soldiers don't necessarily need to look or act much different, especially in a setting like Aliens where they all act like stereotypical marines anyway," they said.
The petition is over here.
