'Meaning, not fun' will drive Beyond: Two Souls

David Cage doesn't want to challenge gamer's thumbs

David Cage has told Edge Magazine that his forthcoming PS3 exclusive Beyond: Two Souls is not aimed at delivering "fun" to players.

The Quantic Dream lead man - also responsible for the divisive 2010 title Heavy Rain - has told Edge that he's "not interested in giving [players] 'fun'."

"My goal is to surprise people, to give them something they want without knowing they want it," he said. "I want to create an emotional journey, a unique experience.

"I am not interested in giving them 'fun', I want to give them meaning; I don't want to challenge their thumbs, I want to challenge their minds."

The plot of Beyond follows a single character over the course of 15 years and is a response to the death of one of Cage's relatives. "Maybe this is not what most people out there actually want," he continued, "but this is the goal I set myself with Beyond: to create something different."
