Doom 4 release 'when it's done,' says Carmack

Studio moves resources to focus on triple-A titles

id Software's long-in-development Doom 4 will be "done when it's done," coding legend John Carmack told QuakeCon attendees last night.

However, during his speech Carmack assured fans the Bethesda-owned studio hasn't given up on Doom 4, revealing it's shifted focus away from its mobile division to free up staff for the project.

"The Bethesda family really is about swinging for the fences," he said (via Kotaku). "I hope that we do get back to mobile in various ways in the future, but the real aim is blockbuster triple-A titles, and for Id that means Doom 4.

"Essentially everybody will be focused on Doom 4 as a project."

Doom 4 was first confirmed in May 2008, but very little has been seen of it since.

Last year it was claimed Doom 4 had been 'indefinitely postponed' due to issues surrounding Rage reviews, though this was later denied.
