The Golden Joystick Awards are back

Voting opens for landmark thirtieth anniversary event

The hmv GamesMaster's Golden Joysticks Awards are back, celebrating its thirtieth year as the world's longest-running games ceremony.

Two million votes were cast for the event in 2011, breaking a world record as the most popular publicly voted games awards night.

Voting is now open. The Golden Joystick Awards nominees list reveals all the finalists in each category.

The Awards reflects the changing landscape of the games business. Blockbusters such as Skyrim and Mass Effect 3 have multiple nominations but so too are landmark indie titles such as Journey, Triple Town and Fez.

Voters who participate in all categories will be entered into a competition to win a stash of electronics products together worth more than £4,000 - including an iPad 3, Dr Dre Beats Headphones, a PS Vita and Samsung Galaxy S3.

The ceremony itself takes place on October 26th at Westminster Park Plaza hotel and will be hosted by Irish stand-up comedian Ed Byrne.

"Three long decades ago, ZX Spectrum classic Jetpac flew away with the Game of the Year honours in the first ever Golden Joystick Awards. To see where we've come makes me proud," said GamesMaster editor-in-chief Robin Alway.

"So who's going down in Joysticks history this year, alongside previous winners like Outrun, GTA: Vice City, Modern Warfare and Portal 2? Only you have the power to decide."
