The Secret World DLC delayed following mass layoffs

Second update pushed back into September

Funcom has delayed the release of its second DLC update for The Secret World following staff cuts which reportedly affected approximately half of its global workforce.

The second of its planed monthly updates, titled Issue 2: Digging Deeper, was originally confirmed for release on August 28, but will now not arrive until September 11.

In a statement to players, Funcom blamed this week's staff cuts. "As you may know, this week has been a challenging one for everyone at Funcom. We initiated a process of reducing costs after the launch of The Secret World and this has naturally affected the production schedule as we work on readjusting the team and our internal development processes," said the developer.

"As such, we have had to give ourselves a little more time to wrap up Issue #2 and the new release date for this update is September 11th, 2012.

"We appreciate your understanding and we apologize for the inconvenience. We are definitely eager to get this update out the door so that you guys can finally get your hands on that awesome rocket launcher," it added, promising to "get back on track as soon as possible".

The 'Digging Deeper' will introduce new character customisation options, the plastic surgery and barbershop, new investigation and action missions the first auxiliary weapon - the rocket launcher.

Update Issue 1: Unleashed, was released late July, and introduced a number of investigation missions, unlocked nightmare mode for two more dungeons (Ankh and Hell Fallen), and added a marketplace feature.
