It'll be made available to download from the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live for Gold subscribers on September 18. XBL Silver members will receive access on September 25, Gematsu reports.
It has currently only been announced for Japan, but we've asked Capcom about European release plans.

Yesterday Capcom confirmed reports that stolen retail copies of the PS3 version of the game were in the wild a month ahead of the Resident Evil 6 release date of October 2.
