The Nintendo Wii U has the power of NFC, but sadly no launch titles will support the technology.
The Nintendo Wii U does support NFC (Near Field Communication) and it is expected we will see games using the technology eventually, but unfortunately Nintendo has confirmed no launch titles will make use of it.
Skylanders Giants uses a type of NFC, but it won't use the Wii U's technology. Nick Ruepp, producer at Vicarious Visions, told The Verge that they "did entertain the idea," but "didn't want to cripple the GamePad the entire time just so you could put your Skylander on the GamePad."
There were discussions earlier in the year that Rayman Legends would use the NFC technology to import characters into the game, but it never made the final cut.
Nintendo product manager Bill Trinen has confirmed that no Wii U launch titles will use the technology. Trinen says, "a lot of the developers are wondering what are the options? How do we leverage it? As they start to come with their ideas, solutions and great content, we will talk more about it."
Trinen believes it won't be "too far out" until we see the NFC technology supported in a Wii U title.
