1. SEASONS GREETINGS
There's been a distinct lack of weather so far in the Creedverse. Full seasons (with movement- hampering snowfalls) will completely change III's environments, making every in-game month a new experience.
2. DEAD REDCOAT REDEMPTION
Combat's been changed significantly with Connor capable of tackling and countering more bad guys at once than Ezio could ever manage, with sleek new animations making him look like a total badass in the process. Don't worry too much about the muskets - it takes so long to reload them that they'll rarely be a problem after the first shot's gone wide.
3. PETER PARKOUR
Assassin's Creed is a series founded on free-running roots, and for the first time Ubisoft have decided to change that backbone in a meaningful way. Sure, past entries added elements such as ziplines and lifts, but everything about movement has been overhauled for AC III.
With city block systems making way for sporadic branch and tree placements, the camera's movement now plays a huge role in guiding you to your next foothold. Navigating through the trees isn't quite a puzzle, but it's far more involved than the pull-the-trigger-and-switch-your-brain-off running of old. Moving stepping-stones further add intricacies.
4. DART ATTACK
Connor's packing a ton of new abilities into his cloak. Tomahawk throwing's great fun, but our favourite new feature is the rope-dart. Used to pluck people from horseback, it's also possible to string soldiers high up in the trees by attacking someone from above and then jumping down while holding the rope, hanging them in the process.
5. THE SEVEN SEAS
The ship set-pieces are a mixture of campaign- and side-missions, and involve sinking vessels with cannon fire and boarding burning boats to slay their crew with your sword. Not only are they AC III's most visually spectacular moments, they play as good as they look.
6. THE FINAL FRONTIER
AC III's world is bigger, richer and far more interesting than that of any Assassin's Creed location so far. Somehow, in the quest for a massive world, Ubi haven't skimped on the small details.
