All states and territories agreed to amend the Classification Act with the new R18+ rating for video games. However, while the ACT and NSW has passed the legislation, Western Australia is proving to be difficult.
They never said it would be easy, and with government involved, things rarely are. While NSW and ACT passed the R18+ legislation into state law without a hitch, Western Australia has decided to send the legislation back to the committee for review.
The committee is expected to report on the 6th of November, which may cause issues considering the new rating for video games is expected to come into effect January 2013.
The committee is accepting submissions from the public, should you want to voice your opinion on the matter, particularly if you are from Western Australia.
Let's hope the remaining state governments pass the legislation without any problems.
