Earlier this year Microsoft began offering an Xbox 360, Kinect and an Xbox Live Gold membership for an up front cost of $99, with subsequent monthly payments of $14.99 for the duration of a two year contract.

This deal was available at first only in Microsoft Stores before being offered at Best Buy and select GameStop outlets.

MS has today announced that new subscription bundles will be available from October 28, and retailers Toys R Us and Walmart will join those selling them from October 28 and 29 respectively.

MS will offer three package deals; a 4GB Xbox 360 with Kinect bundle or a standalone 250GB Xbox 360 for $99.99 upfront, or for a "limited time" a 250GB Xbox 360 with Kinect for $149.99 upfront.

All three plans will lock buyers into a two-year commitment of monthly payments of $14.99.

Matt Barlow, Microsoft's general manager for interactive entertainment marketing, has said recently that the mobile phone-style subscription model is "pivotal" to the company's business.
