GJA: Minecraft XBLA awarded Best Downloadable Game

The Walking Dead and Journey fill runners-up spots

Minecraft for Xbox Live Arcade has been voted the Best Downloadable Game at the 2012 hmv Golden Joystick Awards, with The Walking Dead and Journey filling runners-up spots.

Ported by Dundee-based 4J Studios, the Xbox version of the PC mega-hit broke XBLA records by selling more than any other title in its first 24 hours of availability on the platform.

Minecraft XBLA went on to sell over a million copies in less than a week and 4 million copies by the first of this month.

Here's what we said in our 9/10 Minecraft: Xbox 360 review: "Whether you're mining, crafting, building, or fighting - either alone, or with friends - there's nothing quite like Minecraft. An accomplished, streamlined port that's a perfect fit for Xbox 360."

Over four million votes were cast in this year's Golden Joysticks - almost twice the previous Guinness World Record-breaking best.
