Civilization MMO in development for Asia

Firaxis lending its expertise to South Korea-developed Civilization Online

Take-Two has announced that an MMO based on the Civilization strategy franchise is in development for release in Asian markets.

With a working title of Civilization Online, the game is being created by a team of 100 people at South Korea-based XL Games, with series creator Firaxis Games lending its expertise and vision to the project.

XL Games is headed up by Jake Song, who played a key role in creating NCsoft MMORPG Lineage, which has attracted 43 million players.

"2K is committed to supporting the growing Asian market by bringing our best IP and strongest franchises to the most popular online platforms in each territory," said David Ismailer, chief operating officer of Take-Two label 2K Games.

"Civilization Online is an example of how 2K can leverage its successful franchises, beyond sports, to create entirely new experiences in genres that resonate with customers in this region."

The Civilization franchise has sold more than eleven million units worldwide.
