Assassin's Creed 3 sold approximately 3.5 million copies in its first week of availability, according to publisher Ubisoft.
CEO Yves Guillemot said this afternoon: "First-week sell-through sales for Assassin's Creed 3 are estimated at over 3.5 million units, representing a year-on-year increase of more than 100 per cent."
Assassin's Creed 3 launched last week on Xbox 360 and PS3. It debuted atop the UK all formats chart following record week one sales for the series.
The game will release on PC on November 23 and a Wii U version will be available at the console's launch later this month.
Our Assassin's Creed 3 review describes the fourth Assassin's Creed game in four years as "a gargantuan, lavish historical epic, let down by shoddy mission design".
