Vagrant Story writer leaves Level-5 after 17 months

Matsuno steps down after completing work on Crimson Shroud

Yasumi Matsuno, writer of Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy XII and Final Fantasy Tactics, has Level-5, just 17 months after joining the Professor Layton studio.

Matsuno joined Level-5 in June 2011 to work on Crimson Shroud, one of the four games included in the Guild 01 compilation for Nintendo 3DS.

He candidly announced his departure on Twitter (via Gematsu) and thanked his colleagues.

"Good morning. The weather this morning in the city center is clear, 16 degrees. Doesn't the warm sunlight feel nice? Well, I'm sorry to report, but due to personal reasons, next month I'll be retiring from Level-5," he said. "Having finished production of 3DSWare domestically and in North America and Europe, it's at a good point time-wise for me to retire."

He continued: "Even though it was for a short period of time, I was able to work hard without any gross mistakes. I am extremely grateful for the gift of genial teaching I received from everyone. Over and over again, thank you so much. I plan on taking a break for a while. I'm very thankful to have your support from now on."
