EA Origin users reporting cases of account hijacking

Update: EA told us in a statement: "Anytime a player has a question about the security of his or her account or personal data, we take it very seriously and take all possible steps to help. For any customer who cannot access their Origin account for any reason, we ask them to please contact Origin Help

Those affected report receiving an email from Origin notifying them that changes to account details like their username and password have successfully been made.
They're then unable to login to their account, according to a thread on NeoGAF highlighting a number of cases. While forum posts suggest Origin account hijacking is nothing new, a relatively high frequency of cases appear to have been reported in the last week.
EA representatives on the publisher's official forums suggest that affected users contact EA Customer Experience at http://help.origin.com for assistance. We've contacted EA for comment.
The publisher claimed last month that Origin now has 30 million registered users.
