Ouya dev kits ship December 28

Developers treated to 'pretty special' consoles ahead of commercial launch

The first Ouya development consoles will be arriving to their owners just in time for the New Year.

The Android-powered consoles are set to leave the factory on December 28, and should be in the hands of developers "within a couple of days", according to the Ouya team.

Developers who pledged the required funds to the console's Kickstarter fund will be the first to get the micro-sized Android box.

"When the final consoles ship, every Ouya will be a dev console. We told you that already," reads the official blog.

"What we didn't tell you was that the advance dev consoles you ordered are pretty special - you'll know what I mean when you open yours. They're rare drops," it teases.

Ouya dev software will be available to all - not just Ouya console owners - in time for the dev kit arrival.
