Metro: Last Light on console is 'essentially identical' to PC, says THQ

Resolution and frame rate aside, 'fundamental' parity is achieved according to THQ

The PS3 and Xbox versions of Metro: Last Light will be "essentially identical" to the PC version of the game.


That's according to THQ's head of global communications Huw Beynon, who told OXM that, aside from the usual bumps in resolution, frame rate and some special effects afforded by high-end PC hardware, the console versions achieve "fundamental" parity.

"We've obviously been showing it to you on PC all driven through an Xbox controller, but there's absolutely no gameplay difference between platforms," said Beynon. "You have an, essentially, identical gameplay experience."

He added, "There are obviously things we can do on PC just because this is a studio where you give them a hardware limit and they'll expand to fill it and push it - higher resolution, slighter higher frame rate at that resolution, a few fancier lighting and graphical effects, whatever we can eke out the very latest generation of graphics cards for PC.

"But all the fundamentals - dynamic lighting, physics and AI - everything that has a material impact on the game is identical across platforms."

Metro: Last Light developer Oles Shishkovtsov made headlines in November after allegedly describing the Wii U's CPU as "horrible" and "slow" when asked whether the title would be ported to Nintendo's new console.

Beynon later 'clarified' this statement when he suggested that a port of Metro: Last Light for Wii U was feasible, though time and resource constraints were primarily preventing this, and that media coverage had "spun" the truth of the matter.
