Square Enix confirms staff cuts

Lay-offs felt at L.A offices, will not affect development of MMO titles

Rumours of staff cuts at Square Enix plagued the internet over the weekend, but now senior director of public relations Riley Brennan has confirmed that staff reductions have occurred at the L.A. office.

The publisher's L.A. office underwent staff lay-offs for the purpose of restructuring, but it has been confirmed that despite the staff cuts, the development of its MMO titles will not suffer.

Senior director of public relations for Square Enix, Riley Brennan, provided the following statement to Massively, after rumours of the lay-offs spread, along with rumours that many online titles would be affected:

In order to ensure it is operating effectively, the Square Enix Los Angeles office has reduced its workforce. This was a difficult decision and we wish the best for those affected by these changes. The decision will not have any impact on the operations of MMO titles. Customers can expect those services to continue, including the upcoming launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Best of luck to those affected by the lay-offs.
