A record-breaking 17.4 million iOS and Android devices were activated on Christmas day, more than on any other day in 2012.
A report published by Flurry reveals a 332% increase in device activation over the baseline average from the first 20 days of December. By comparison, Christmas day 2011 reached 6.8 million device activations, which was more than doubled this year.
An estimated 328m apps were also downloaded across iOS and Android devices on Christmas day. Over the December 1 to December 20 baseline app downloads increased by 112% on the 25th.
The US accounted for a significant portion of the app downloads, with 604m downloads. China and the UK followed with 183m and 132m downloads respectively.
The report also notes that although smartphone activations typically outpace tablets by 4:1, on Christmas Day iPads, iPad Minis and Amazon Kindle Fire HD tablets led the pack.
Amazon in particular is highlighted for its growth of several thousand percent over its baseline of tablet activations during early December.
Apple is reportedly already testing both the iPhone 6 and iOS 7.
